The present invention provides apparatus for applying an agrochemical to a growing crop by a method which comprises sensing the condition of the foliage of the crop and applying the agrochemical to the crop in response to the condition sensed by means of one or more applicator mechanisms carried by a primary boom member (1), characterised in that apparatus comprises: (e) a primary boom member; and (f) one or more sensor(s) (40) for sensing the condition of the foliage of the crop mounted upon the primary boom member (1) by secondary boom member(s) (30) which are movable from a retracted position at which the sensor(s) (40) are located adjacent the primary boom member (1) to a deployed position at which the sensor(s) (40) are located forward of the primary boom member (1) in the intended direction of travel of the primary boom member over the crop. The invention also provides a tractor provided with apparatus of the invention and a method for applying an agrochemical to a crop or the ground in which the crop is growing using the apparatus of the invention.
