An improved air intake apparatus for a liquid ring vacuum pump is disclosed, having a gas inlet port having a cross-sectional area, a conduit communicating with the gas inlet port. The conduit has a cross-sectional area substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the gas inlet port. Then, a gas outlet port communicates with the conduit and the liquid ring vacuum pump. The gas outlet port has a cross-sectional area substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the conduit. The improved air intake apparatus also has a mouth having a cross-sectional area, an outlet passageway in communication with the mouth, a cross-sectional area substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the mouth, a discharge port in communication with the outlet passageway, and a cross-sectional area substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the outlet passageway.
