A gas generator is produced using cold forming to form a hollow housing body and, after insertion of components, to close the body. A gas generator is produced by: (a) cold forming a housing part (3) to form a hollow body with one or more open sides (9); (b) inserting a sealing material (17), a filter (19) and/or a propellant (15) in the hollow body; and (c) further or completely closing the or each open side by cold forming. An Independent claim is also included for a gas generator produced by the above process, in which the inserted components have a size such that they cannot be withdrawn from the filling opening (7) in the open side. Preferred Feature: Cold forming is carried out by deep drawing.
