A machine for the pressing of pellets comprises a block (3) having an upwardly open flute (21) and a plurality of long narrow bores (23) mouthing in the flute, which bores are open at opposite ends and in which pistons (27) are movable to-and-fro so as to compress a fine-grained raw material (15) being fed down into the flute. On the free end of each piston (27) there is a narrow, short tenon (29) which brings about an extraordinary compression of the raw material. When the material is compressed a continuous, strong material string (37) is provided which is fed out from the individual bore (23) and cut in the desired length by means of a cutting device (34).
