An escalator device, wherein an endless chain (36) is passed around an upper sprocket wheel (34) installed on an upper layer floor (32) and a lower sprocket wheel (42) installed on a lower layer floor (31), a plurality of treads (37) are connected to the chain (36), and a riser (38) is connected angularly displaceable to one end part of the tread (37) on a lower layer floor (31) side and disposed in a transfer area (S5) at a projecting position suspended downward and folded in the lower circulating area (S2) so that it comes in parallel generally with the tread, whereby the escalator device (30) can be reduced in thickness, a link means (80) is installed between each tread (37) and the riser (38), a guide member (100) is installed near the upper end part of the escalator device (30), and the riser (38) is moved to the lower circulating area (S2) in the state of being folded because the link means (80) is displaced by the guide of the guide member.
