Iridium-containing molding useful as a gamma radiation source e.g. for weld seam radiography and cancer treatment

An iridium-containing molding is produced by pressing a powder mixture of iridium, containing its light isotope, and a ductile neutron-inert metal. An iridium-containing molding is produced by pressing a mixture of a fine Ir(191)-containing metallic iridium powder and a fine powder of a metal which is more ductile than iridium and which does not become radioactive on neutron irradiation. An Independent claim is also included for a molding produced by the above method. Preferred Features: The ductile metal is platinum black and the molding is sintered without significant interdiffusion of the metals in a protective gas atmosphere.
