New tryptamine derivatives useful as antibacterial agents for treating infections in humans and especially animals

N-Oxoacyl 1-substituted tryptamine derivatives (I) are new. Tryptamine derivatives of formula (I) and their enantiomers, hydrates and acid-addition salts are new: R<1> = 1-8C alkyl or 4-8C cycloalkyl; R<2> = H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkylthio, phenyl or halogen; R<3> = H, 1-4C alkyl or halogen; R<4> = 1-6C alkyl, 4-6C cycloalkyl, Ar or CH2Ar; Ar = phenyl optionally substituted by 1-3 of 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy, 1-3C alkylthio, halogen, NO2 or NH2.
