The unit has a carrier structure (21) with a rectangular surrounding section (28) which is accommodated by the seating of the component handling apparatus. It has several bounding elements (38, 50) defining a seating (30, 32, 34) for component trays. The bounding elements include a stationary movable tray positioning sections. The latter produce preloads which force trays with smaller dimensions into definite, repetetive positions in the seatings (30, 32, 34).
