The unit includes a reference signal generator, signal output connection, signal comparator connection and a reference signal output connection. A converter switch (S1) is connected between the signal generator and the signal output connection. A further converter switch (S2) connects between the signal generator and the reference connection. First and second converter switches and calibration switch (S3) of the signal generator connect selectively with at least the signal output connection, the signal comparator connection or the reference connection, providing an output signal accordingly. An Independent claim is included for a method of digital self-calibration for a current-controlled digital to analog (DAC) with several storage cells.
