The magnetic antenna is formed as a flexible coil (16), e.g. of diameter 0.5 m, whose ends (17',17) are connected via a socket (19) to a feed cable (12) from a communication device. The loop may be formed from a length of multicore, e.g. ribbon, cable (23), with ends suitably joined to form a continuous multiple-winding coil, and for connection to the feed cable, by crimping or soldering.
