A procedure for running a mercury vapor discharge radiator lamp which is fed alternately with current pulses via a transformer, has a commutation of the current taking place between successive current pulses. A current pulse relative to its absolute value rises rapidly at its start somewhat like an exponential function and subsequently until almost the next commutation remains at a value which allows an output of radiation power by the radiator.- DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A slower linear rise joins up with the rapid rise up to a current maximum which lies in the neighborhood of the next commutation.
