PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the absolute position of a sliding contact when it is rotated in a free direction from a free position by switching the voltage applying electrodes arranged with an angle phase difference, and utilizing the open-side electrode to take out the detecting potential of the sliding contact through an annular resistor to which no voltage is applied. SOLUTION: An electrode 32 is provided in a position of 180 deg. as rotating angle from an electrode 31 provided on an annular resistor 30, and an electrode 35 is provided in a position of 180 deg. as rotating angle from an electrode 34 provided on an annular resistor 33 arranged concentrically. When the detecting voltage of a sliding contact 36 which makes contact with the resistors 30, 33 when a voltage Vref is applied between the electrodes 31, 32 is (x), and the detected voltage of the sliding contact 36 when the voltage Vref is switched to the electrodes 34 and 35 by switching means 22a, 22b is (y), the detected voltages (x), (y) can be taken out from the open-side electrodes through the other annular resistor with which the sliding contact 36 is simultaneously in contact. The potential of the sliding contact 36 is a two-phase output having an angle phase differenceϕ, and the rotating angle of the sliding contact 36 can be provided from the respective potentials and the phase relation between the both.
