PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester film for a thermal transfer image receiving sheet having excellent folding wrinkle resistance by obtaining excellent surface smoothness and sufficient image density, and the thermal transfer image receiving sheet. SOLUTION: A polyester film (layer A) containing many cavities according to a thermoplastic resin noncompatible with a polyester in a film is connected to a polyester film (layer B) containing many fine cavities according to inorganic fine particles having a mean particle size of less than 1 μm in the film. A cavity content ratio in the layer B is 20 vo.% or more, and an apparent specific weight of the overall film is set to less than 1.3.
