<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the liquid crystal display device which has a wide field angle and a high contrast. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device consists of an electrode group including scanning signal electrodes, video signal electrodes, and pixel electrodes, one substrate 1 where an active element is formed and a 1st oriented film 8 is formed covering the electrode group and active element directly or across an insulating layer, and the other substrate where a 2nd oriented film is formed so that the 1st and 2nd oriented films face each other, a liquid crystal layer is held in the opposition gap, and the electrode group applies the liquid crystal layer with a magnetic filed substantially parallel to both the substrates, and is equipped with a polarizing means which is connected to a driving means capable of optionally controlling the applied electric field according to a display pattern and varies optical characteristics according to the oriented state of the liquid crystal layer, and the ratio (H1/H2) of the height H1 of the highest part of the 1st oriented film 8 formed on one substrate 1 and the height H2 of the lowest part is 1.0 to 3.5 preferably, 1.0 to 2.8.</p> |
