PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyol in an industrially advantageous way by repeatedly culturing a polyol-productive microorganism and, from the 2nd time on, culturing it in e.g. a low-nutrient medium to collect the resulting cultured product so as to mitigate the burden of spawn culture and microbial cell disposal. SOLUTION: This polyol is obtained in an industrially advantageous way through mitigating the burden of spawn culture and microbial cell disposal, by the following procedure: a polyol-productive-microorganism [e.g. Trichosporonoides megatiliensis SN-G42 (FERM BP-1430)] is cultured in the 1st medium containing a carbon source, the microbial cells are separated and recovered from the medium after culture and the polyol thus produced is collected; subsequently, the microbial cells thus recovered are cultured in a low- nutrient medium containing a carbon source alone as the nutrient ingredient or a low-nutrient medium where the nutrient ingredients other than the carbon source are low in concentration compared to the case with the 1st medium, and the resulting microbial cells are separated and recovered from the medium after culture and the resultant polyol thus produced is collected. |
