PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an initial contact angle in a highly accurate manner. SOLUTION: Supposing that an inernal radial clearanceΔr (=Δri+Δre: radial quantity) is fixed, a contact angleαis also fixed by COSα=1-[Δr/(ri+ re-Da)]. A ball bearing of this self-aligning type clutch release bearing unit is elastically supported on a sleeve free of radial movements, and since both inner and outer rings are not fitted in any other members, there is no variation in an internal radial clearanceΔr, and the contact angleαbeing fixed like that comes to an initial contact angle. Therefore, this initial contact angleαis accurately controllable, owing to this internal radial clearanceΔr.
