PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous pigment dispersion which has a high carbon black content and is excellent in stability of dispersion in an aqueous medium, flowability, and a degree of blackness even from a not surface-treated carbon black. SOLUTION: There is provided an aqueous pigment dispersion essentially consisting of carbon black, a dispersant, and water, wherein the carbon black has a particle diameter (ϕ) of 13-35 nm and a ratio of the oil (DBP) absorption (cc/100 g) to the specific surface area (m<2> /g) of 0.25-0.8, and the dispersant is one soluble in a hydrophobic organic solvent and soluble or dispersible in water, and the weight ratio (W) of the dispersant to the carbon black is 1:2-to 2:5.
