Fully recyclable tufted carpet

Fully recyclable tufted carpet (I) is claimed, contg. a dimensionally-stable first backing material (A), loop pile nap (B) and opt. a second backing (C) of polyamide, polyester or polypropylene. The novelty is that all the polymer components belong to the same polymer family and the nap (B) is bonded to backing (A) with an adhesive applied in the form of a paste. Also claimed is a process for producing (I), by tufting (B) into (A) and bonding it with a paste contg. a melt-type adhesive (II). Specifically (A) is dry- or spun-bonded fabric or woven fabric, pref. consisting of a mixt. of fibres of the same polymer type with high and low m.pts. (II) is of the same polymer family as (A) and (B), and pref. has melting range 100-170 deg.C and particle size below 80 microns. (C) is a sheet of woven or non-woven fabric, double-rib material or felt, pref. contg. regenerated fibres, which is fixed to (A) with melt-type adhesive.
