PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transgenic non-human mammalian that has the gene sequence of inactivated betacellulin and is useful for screening prophylactic and therapeutic agents for diseases caused by the deficiency of betacellulin or its progeny bearing said gene sequence. SOLUTION: This animal has the gene sequence of inactivated betacellulin or the gene sequence of inactivated betacellulin gene sequence transduced in the early embryonic stage in the productive cells or in the somatic cells. In a preferred embodiment, the animal has the betacellulin gene sequence inactivated by transducing a reporter gene, for example, β-galactosidase gene derived from Escherichia coli, and this reporter gene is preferably expressed under the control of the betacellulin promoter. Further, it is preferred that the screening of the prophylactic and therapeutic drugs for the diseases caused by the betacellulin deficiency is carried out by using this transgenic not-human mammalian.
