PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alkoxylation catalyst by allowing a specified dicarboxylic acid to react with a specified alcohol to form the corresponding dicarboxylic acid monoester, forming an alkaline earth metallic salt of the monoester, partially neutralizing the salt and removing the present water at below a prescribed temp. SOLUTION: A dicarboxylic acid of formula I is allowed to react with 1.5-8 mol alcohol of formula II per 1 mol of the acid to form the corresponding dicarboxylic acid monoester. Water and 0.45-0.55 mol basic alkaline earth metallic compd. per 1 mol of the acid are added to the monoester to form the alkaline earth metallic salt of the monoester and the salt is partially neutralized by adding 0.25-0.7 mol H2 SO4 per 1 mol of the alkaline earth metallic compd. The present water at <100 deg.C is then removed to produce the objective alkoxylation catalyst. In formula I, (a) is 1-4. In formula II, R is 4-22C alkyl, 4-22C alkenyl or a group of formula III.
|
