PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use an echo removing device for an echo canceler to be utilized for executing full duplex in a hands-free telephone set, a video conference system or the like and to stabilize echo canceling operation. SOLUTION: The echo removing device includes a line side echo canceler 39 for removing a line echo signal and an acoustic side echo canceler 43 for removing an acoustic echo signal and detects the sound/silence of respective receiving routes A, B by respective sound detectors 72, 74 based on the echo removing results of respective echo cancelers 39, 43. A double talk detector 76 detects double talk based on these sound detection results and detects a double talk state, an indefinite state, a single talk state, and so on. An overall control part 66 judges whether each of the cancelers 39, 43 is a learning enabled state or not by using the echo removing result and controls the learning operation of the echo cancelers 39, 43 based on respective judges results and the double talk detection result.
