PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polynucleotide which has high homology to a nucleic acid coding for lacC polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, and can be used, for example, for screening of antibiotic compounds and for treating and diagnosing the bacterial infection by streptococcus. SOLUTION: This is a newly isolated polynucleotide consisting of (1) a polynucleotide having homology at 70% or higher to a polynucleotide coding for a polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence shown by the formula, (2) a polynucleotide having homology at 70% or higher to a polynucleotide coding for the same mature polypeptide as one expressed by lacC gene contained in a deposited strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae, and so on, and is useful, for example, for screening of antibiotic compounds and for treating and diagnosing the bacterial infection by S. pneumoniae. This polynucleotide is obtained by probing a chromosomal DNA library of S. pneumoniae with an oligonucleotide from its partial sequence. |
