PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sizing agent for glass fiber that can be applicable as a reinforcing material to an extremely wide range of thermoplastic resins by using a copolymer prepared from anα-olefin and anα,β-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester. SOLUTION: A copolymer of an a-olefin such as ethylene and anα,β-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester such as glycidyl methacrylate is used in an amount of 0.1-100 pts.wt., on the solid basis to obtain the objective sizing agent for glass fibers. Glass fiber bundles or glass fiber chopped strands are treated with the sizing agent in an amount of 0.1-5.0 wt.%, preferably 0.3-2.5 wt.%, then the sized chopped strands are formulated to a thermoplastic resin, for example, polyethylene terephthalate to obtain glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin. |
