Molded element, especially a plate, is a compressed mixture of binder and a ground, shredded banknotes filler in a preferred amount of 50 - 75 wt.%. The binder preferably contains isocyanate groups in the form of polyurethane and the mixture also contains the likes of pigments, fire-retardants, plasticizers, stabilizers, and UV-absorbers. Independent claims are included for (a) a method for molding the element by compressing and heating the mixture of binder and filler between two paper or metal foil substrates which are subsequently removed by grinding, milling, or scouring; (b) a device including a compression and heating unit and a unit for applying the mixture to the substrates. The element is produced as a large element which is subsequently cut into smaller elements.
