PURPOSE:To produce a graphite vessel free from coming off of powdery graphite or occurrence of a crack, etc., by coating a graphite vessel with a polycarbodiimide resin and then carbonizing the polycarbodiimide resin in an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A graphite vessel having, e.g. a crucible shape is coated with a polycarbodiimide resin and heat treated at 500 to 3000 deg.C in an inert atmosphere to carbonize the polycarbodiimide resin. Thereby, a graphite vessel coated with a carbonized polycarbodiimide resin is produced. The produced graphite vessel has not an exposed porous structure on the surface and, therefore, can be prevented from invasion of a fused liquid of glass or a metal into the porous structure when used, e.g. for fusion of glass, fusion of a metal or purification thereof. Accordingly, the content can be taken out of the vessel without difficulty after cooling and this vessel can be repeatedly used without occurrence of a crack. There is no fear about contamination of the fused liquid with powdery graphite. |
