PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a contact type electrification device and an electrifying roll by which an excellent copied image is obtained. SOLUTION: The electrifying roll 21 is brought into contact with the carrier 22 and the carrier 22 is electrified by superimposing an AC voltage and a DC voltage and applying them on the roll 21. At this time, a gap between the carrier 22 and the roll 21 becomes 0 to 10μm when the roll 21 is made to press- contact with the carrier 22 by the load of 40 to 42 g/cm.
