PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop generation of starting voltage of a lamp when the start voltage is continuously supplied for a constant period or longer in a determination circuit for determining whether an installed lamp is proper or improper. SOLUTION: This lighting system comprises a judgment circuit 5 for judging which detects a prescribed electric characteristic of an element for detection built in a discharge lamp 6 and judges that the connected discharge lamp 6 is a proper lamp in cases where the detected value is within a prescribed range, a starter circuit 4 for supplying start voltage to the discharge lamp when the discharge lamp is determined to be proper, a timer circuit 73 for counting the operation continuing time of the starter circuit, and an output control means 71 for inhibiting the output of the starter circuit in a case where the measured duration is a constant time or longer. |
