Water is sterilized by the current passing between a cathode of vitreous carbon, graphite or silver and an anode of zinc or magnesium, forming a galvanic battery. The electrodes may be bars linked by a conducting wire, or spheres, a few millimeters in diameter (as shown), in contact with each other and submerged in the water. |
