PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle position detecting method with which the final position of a vehicle on a road can be highly accurately detected while using travel history data. SOLUTION: Concerning the vehicle position detecting method for detecting the final position of the vehicle while using the data showing the travel history of the vehicle, a final position 24 expressed by latest data in these data is selected as a starting position, a position 25 on the road in the past is found by executing map matching tracing a traveling route backward, this position in the past is defined as a starting position, and a final position 26 on the road is found by executing map matching tracing the traveling route forward. The starting position of forward map matching can be found exactly rather than a case (b) of finding the position 23 in the past by tracing a vector backward from the final position 24.
