PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a focusing action from becoming unfeasible in a short time by executing a searching action executed when the focus of a selected focus detection point cannot be detected after the elapse of the prescribed time after a focus detection unfeasible state is detected and making the selected focus detection point face to a focus detection object within the prescribed time. SOLUTION: The deviation amount and the contrast of two images are obtained from two set of image signals stored in a RAM (#22). When the contrast of two images are lower than a prescribed value, a 300 msec-timer is started (#27), a focus detecting action is started and the image signals of two images are stored in the RAM (#28). Next, the deviation amount of two images is obtained and the contrast of two images are also calculated (#29). Based on the contrast of two images, it is discriminated whether the focus can be detected or not (#30). When the focus cannot be detected, the state of the timer is confirmed (#31). When time-up is attained, the searching action is executed (#32). Thereafter, a lens is driven (#25). |
