Radioisotope contaminated air is filtered by isotopic exchange reaction with two active chemical substances contained in an absorbent material. Physical-chemical filtration of air, contaminated with natural or artificial radioisotope vapors or aerosols, is carried out by air passage through an absorbent material comprising two active chemical substances which are absorbed on or agglomerated with an inert support material and which, during radioisotope contact, produce isotopic exchange reactions which fix the radioisotopes on the absorbent material in a storable solid form.
