<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image decoder that operates smoothly a displayed image without causing incompatibility by reacting a skip command quickly in the case of fast feeding during decoding processing. SOLUTION: A dynamic picture experts group MPEG decoder 11 decodes dynamic image compression data consisting of a group of consecutive pictures each including an I picture decoded without referencing other pictures and pluralities of P pictures decoded by referencing the other pictures and succeeding to the I picture and outputs the decoded pictures. The MPEG decoder 11 is provided with a 1st memory area 17 and a 2nd memory area 18 that store the I or P pictures after decoding for displayed pictures, and with a 3rd memory area 19 that stores the I picture or the P pictures after decoding for not displayed pictures, and stores consecutive I and P pictures to the 1st memory area 17 and the 2nd memory area 18 alternately in the case of usual processing not requiring skipping, and stores pictures to be skipped to the 3rd memory area 19 and stores succeeding pictures to the 1st memory area 17 and the 2nd memory area 18 alternately in the case of skip processing.</p> |
