PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new, improved thermal battery of a type including a container for containing therein phase variable substance which is in a solid phase in a salt or at relatively low ambient temperatures while in a liquid phase at temperatures of the order of the operating temperature of a cooling system for an automobile. SOLUTION: In a ventilation system 52, an inlet end 54 includes a cup-shaped baffle 60 which is cylindrical as a whole. The baffle 60 includes an inlet opening 62 extending downward to a salt reference liquid level 50 inside a first container 10. The first container 10 includes an opening 66 through which a threaded end 68 of a cup-shaped fixture 70 penetrates. The baffle 60 is screwed with the threaded end 68 of the fixture 70 in mutually self-tightening arrangement. The cup-shaped fixture 70 is provided with a side opening 72 for receiving a structure 74 defining a pocket having an inside pocket 76. A filter is fixed onto a side opposite to the inside pocket 76, of the structure 74 inside the cup- shaped fixture 70. The filter is made of a material which is wetted by salt contained in the first container 10. |
