The method involves estimating a transmission torque of a clutch arrangement in a power transmission system, whose active power is controllable, whereby the transmission torque is transferred by the clutch if it is activated. The power of the clutch is reduced to cause the clutch to operate in an in-between stage, between a full action and a released condition. A critical action torque of the clutch is determined in the in-between stage, and the transmission torque of the clutch is estimated in dependence on the critical action torque.
