READ SYSTEM FOR SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a read system for a solid-state image pickup element where the S/N and the sensitivity of an output signal is more excellent than those of a full pixel read system and its vertical resolution is more enhanced than that of an inter line read system. SOLUTION: An image pickup area of a CCD image pickup element is provided with a plurality of photo sensors 11 of a 2-dimension arrangement that compose pixels and apply photoelectric conversion to an incident light from an object and store signal charges and with a plurality of vertical transfer CCDs 12 that transfer signal charges of the photo sensors 11 of each column among the plurality of the photo sensors 11 in a vertical direction. The vertical transfer CCDs 12 have a structure where electrodes 131 -136 are periodically formed in the vertical direction in figure, three-phase drive pulsesϕ1 -ϕ6 are respectively and separately applied to the electrode 131 -136 to read signal charges as a full pixels read system. In the case of applying 6-phase drive pulses to the electrodes, reading by an inter line read system is available.
