The lean-mixture IC engine has a scavenging path to flush a fuel vapor into an induction system of the engine, the vapor being generated by a fuel storage module to store the fuel of the engine, and a scavenging control device to control an amount of fuel vapor which is introduced into the induction system from the scavenging path in agreement with an operating state of the engine. An apparatus detects a concentration of fuel vapor in a lean-mixture IC engine, a device detects power variation when the fuel vapor is flushed, and another device calculates the concentration of the fuel vapor in accordance with the amount of the power variation that is detected by the previous device.
