The method involves arranging an electric or magnetic field generator (1) on a rotator (21). The electric or magnetic field is measured by altering the rotation position of the generator. The generator is arranged on the rotator, so that the axes of the axis-symmetrical electric or magnetic fields are axially aligned with the rotation axis. The rotator is moved by a movement unit (22,23), to move the generator relative to the rotation axis.
