The coated component comprises a leather layer (4) and a substrate (5) with an adhesive bonding layer (7) based on a carrier structure (2) and a hot melt adhesive between them. A flexible cushion layer is attached to the leather layer with an adhesive bonding layer. Independent claims are included for: (a) use of a thermoplastic adhesive fleece (2) or adhesive net in the adhesive bonding layer (7) onto which a heat activated hot melt (3) is applied for bonding the leather layer (4) to a rigid or flexible substrate (5); and (b) a process for bonding a real leather layer to a substrate. Preferred Features: The flexible cushion layer is bonded to a rigid substrate using a similar adhesive bonding layer with pre-metered hot melt. The flat carrier (2) of the adhesive layer has an open structure and a weight/unit area of 8-50 g/m<2>. The weight/unit area of the pre-metered hot melt adhesive is 20-100 g/m<2>.
