The invention relates to a device for suppressing engine knocking in internal combustion engines, whereby the ignition point is adjusted when engine knocking occurs and said adjustment is only activated when given temperature conditions exist in the internal combustion engine. A gas inlet temperature (evmod) in the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is determined in order to evaluate the thermal conditions of the internal combustion engine and to activate engine knock adjustment.
