Rain sensor, especially for motor vehicles

The sensor (4) has light transmitter(s) and receiver(s) whose output signal changes when a coating is formed on a windscreen, especially when wetted by rain. The rain sensor (4) has a measurement path with at least one transmitter and at least one receiver for electromagnetic waves (light waves), in which a windscreen is arranged which influences the propagation of light between the transmitter and receiver so that the receiver output signal changes when a coating forms on the windscreen, esp. when it is wetted by rain. All optical and electronic components are mounted in a common sensor housing with an integral plug (38) for electrical connection to an evaluation unit.
