<p>There are provided methods for the treatment or diagnosis of cancer in a mammal, including the step of administering to the mammal an effective amount of a substantially tin-free solution of 188Re(V)-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid, 186Re(V)-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid or mixtures thereof. There is further provided a process for the preparation of substantially tin-free Re(V)-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid, including the step of reducing a solution of a rhenium(VII) species in the presence of at least a 105-fold molar excess of 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid with at least a 105-fold molar excess of a sulfur dioxide releasing reducing agent at a pH of not greater than 6, wherein the molar excesses are based on the number of moles of the rhenium(VII) species in the solution.</p> |
