The elimination of halogenated compounds contained in a gas or a liquid is carried out by contacting the gas or the liquid in an alumina and/or hydrate alumina based composition and at least a compound A comprising at least of a metallic element chosen from group VII, IB and/or IIB of the periodic table. The metal's content is at most 45 wt.% wrt. the total weight of the composition. The composition is obtained as follows: (a) impregnation of one or several compounds (B) in alumina and/or hydrated alumina, followed by a thermal treatment at temperature greater or equal 100o C or between 200-1200o C or preferably 300-1000o C; (b) impregnation of one or several compounds (A) in alumina and/or hydrated alumina, followed by a thermal treatment at temperature greater or equal 100o C or between 150-600o C or preferably 200-550o C. It can also be obtained by starting with step (b) then step (a) or by introducing simultaneously A and B in alumina and/or hydrated alumina followed by the thermal treatment. In the latter case, the thermal treatment is carried out at 150-1200o C and/or preferably 200-1000o C. |
