Component in rigid foam, used for thermal insulation of e.g. thermal fluids, storage media and hot equipment

The component (1) has a surface (7) facing a (hot) medium carrying or storing thermal energy. Without employing bonding agents, a support pad (2) comprising mineral fiber is attached to a surface (8) of the rigid foam (12). An Independent claim is included for the production of the composite. The foam components are introduced into a closed mold with vents. Immediately afterwards, whilst reaction sets in, the mineral fiber pad (2) is placed upon them, and the mold is closed to resist internal pressure. As the pressure rises during reaction, a firm bond develops between the fire retardant layer and the foam. Preferred Features: The mineral fiber is flame retardant, and/or is not in itself flammable. The fibers are a mineral wool which is highly compressed. The component is a formed section. The surface (6) of the component facing away from the thermal energy carrier, is covered by a sheet (4), bonded without adhesive to the foam. The pad includes a nonflammable perforated sheet (9) bonded onto its hot side The sheet is preferably aluminum foil.
