A method for cutting tying bands (whether of paper or plastic film) of stacks or packs of labels foresees that the band (F) is cut according to a transversal cutting line (T). The invention foresees before the execution of the cut of the band the separation of the same from the stack (P) in the area where the cut takes place by laterally deflecting a part of the labels or the blanks, in order to form a groove (G) for the cutting knife (11) to pass through avoiding certainly interferences between the same and the labels or blanks in the area of the cutting line (T). The invention relates to a device for carrying out the said method and for incorporation of the device in a packing machine especially in cigarette packing machines or similar. <IMAGE>
