PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated tool having a ceramics-coating layer contg. a Ti-Al series multiple carbonitride layer, furthermore good in adhesive force between the coating layer and a tool substrate and moreover excellent in wear resistance and chipping resistance. SOLUTION: This surface-coated tool 1 is provided with a tool substrate 3 composed of cemented carbide, cermet or a high speed tool steel and a ceramic-coating layer 2 covering the surface of the tool substrate 3 by a vapor phase film forming method. The ceramic-coating layer is formed on the surface of the tool substrate 3 in a laminated way and furthermore contains a primary ceramic layer 2a essentially consisting of Ti nitride or Ti carbonitride and a secondary ceramic layer formed on the primary ceramic layer 2a, moreover essentially consisting of Ti-Al multiple carbonitride, and in which, in the case the compositional ratios of the Ti components, Al components, C components and N components in the Ti-Al series multiple carbonitride are expressed by the compositional formula of Tix Al1-x Cy N1-y , 0.55<=x<=0.75 and 0.05<=y<=0.45 are satisfied. In this way, the adhesive force between the ceramic-coating layer 2 and the tool substrate 3 can remarkably be increased, by which the surface- coated tool excellent in wear resistance and chipping resistance can be obtd. |
