PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a binder having a low viscosity in a high concentration, having excellent water resistance and useful for producing nonwoven fabrics such as adhesive interlinings by using a polymer prepared by polymerizing an ethylenic unsaturated monomer in the presence of a specific emulsifier for emulsion polymerization. SOLUTION: This binder for nonwoven fabrics comprises an emulsified polymer obtained by emulsion-polymerizing an ethylenic unsaturated monomer A such as an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (salt) in the presence of an emulsion polymerization emulsifier (1) of the formula [R<1> is the residue of an alcohol having one to six hydroxyl groups or the like; X is the residue of an organic polyisocyanate compound; R<2> is the residue of an alcohol having two hydroxyl groups or the like; Z is a group of the formula: 0-(AO)r -Q (Q is H, a 1-100C hydrocarbon group or the like) or the like; A is an alkylene; (m), (n), (p), (q) and (r) are each 0-500; (k) is 1-6]. Therein, the emulsifier (1) has a weight- average molecular weight of 5,000-500,000, and the difference between the SP value of the emulsifier (1) and the SP value of the (co)polymer of the monomer A is <=2. The content of the oxyethylene units is >=20 wt.%. |
