PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the photocatalytic particle excellent in photocatalytic characteristic, especially excellent in photocatalytic characteristic in a visible ray region. SOLUTION: The photocatalytic particle is provided with titanium oxide particle 2 and an oxide 3 of at least one kind metal or alloy selected among silver, copper and zinc coating the surface of the titanium oxide particle 2 so that a part of the surface 2a of the titanium oxide particle 2 may be exposed, and a particle size of the titanium oxide particle 2 is <=1μm. Since the oxide 3 of the metal or the alloy is applied on the titanium oxide particle 2 excited in an ultraviolet radiation region, these oxides are imparted with a semiconducting characteristic and easily excited by irradiating the oxides with a light in the visible ray region or having a shorter wavelength than that and an electron and a positive hole are generated. Since the oxide 3 itself of the metal or alloy has a catalytic activity, the oxide manifests a function oxidizing an org. matter such as oil.
