PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To have high bending strength through out the full length of a body part, to provide a stable attitude in holding by a needle holder, to make an incised wound width comparatively smaller, and to reduce piercing resistance by forming the body part by four flat surfaces formed along the longitudinal direction of the peripheral wall to have a substantially square section. SOLUTION: A surgical needle 1 includes a body part 2 curved like a half- circular arc, a sharp needle tip part 3 disposed at the tip thereof, and a caulking part 4 formed on the base end part of the drum part 2, an a suture yarn 5 is caulked and stopped to the caulking part 4. The drum part 2 has four flat surfaces 6 formed along the other peripheral surface to have a substantially square section. The corner part of the boundary between the adjacent flat surfaces 6 is formed to remain like a circular arc. Thus, when the drum part 2 is held by a needle holder, the drum part 2 is kept from being rotated, so that during suturing, a surgical needle 1 can be held in a stable attitude. Further, a pair of flat surfaces 6 is selected according to the suture work status to hold the needle to smoothly perform suture work. |
