PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of the screening accuracy of grains in the turning of a combine and prevent the damage of the grains and the loss of grains caused by the escape of grains from the machine. SOLUTION: The falling quantity of grains in an automatic thresher 1 is controlled by a mesh-closing plate 42 to adjust the mesh opening of a chaff sieve 23 and a swing sieve 41 placed below the 2nd threshing drum 3 and having an adjustable swinging angle. When the decrease in the feeding amount of culm caused e.g. by the turning of a combine is detected by a sensor, the swing sieve 41 and the mesh closing plate 42 are closed by a controlling means 77 after the lapse of a definite time and then returned to the original mesh-opening after a definite time.
