PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer having high melt fluidity yet providing high knot strength in preparing a monofilament such as a fishing line, or the like, even without adding a plasticizer, by making the intrinsic viscosity and melt fluidity of the homopolymer or the copolymer of vinylidene fluoride satisfy a specific relation. SOLUTION: This homopolymer of vinylidene fluoride(VdF) or copolymer of VdF and another copolymerizable monomer (e.g. tetrafluoroethylene or the like) has a melt flow rate MFR measured at 230 deg.C and an intrinsic viscosity [η]measured at 25 deg.C satisfying the equation MFR>=65[η]<-7> . The operation polymer is obtained by subjecting VdF or a monomer mixture of VdF and the copolymerizable monomer to suspension polymerization at 0-30 deg.C and stopping the polymerization reaction while the VdF monomer remains in a liquid state in the polymerization system. The ratio of the VdF unit in the copolymer is preferably 95 mol.%. The polymerization temperature is preferably 0-20 deg.C.
